Nationwide NASCAR Winner Kurt Busch to Kyle Busch: Richmond is Ours!

NASCAR winner, Kurt Busch, is ecstatic. One could expect nothing less from his first Nationwide win while driving his younger brother’s No. 54 Camry powered by Monster Energy. When the race came down to Busch and Denny Hamlin, Busch was not going to see his win get away from him that easily. Both drivers raced toward the finish line so close together on the short track at Richmond that one could swear they were scraping sides, or nearly. Hamlin would not let off one bit, but Busch was not ready to give in, either. At the end of it all, Kurt’s car would cross the finish line first, and he would go on to win the race by mere feet, as Hamlin had to stomach another close loss.

“To win tonight puts a lot of questions in my mind at ease (after) how rough of a December and January I had,” Kurt Busch told the press in an emotional press conference after winning at Richmond. “To get behind the wheel as a family … I’m glad Kyle took the chance on me.”

Record Setting Weekend for Busch Brothers

A new record was set at Richmond, a track famous for hosting double header weekends in NASCAR. The Busch brothers have set a record for wins for brothers on the same weekend at the same track in two separate classes of NASCAR racing.

Make sure that you tune in next weekend, as the NASCAR racing schedule for Nationwide resumes for week 8 in Talladega. Check out the entire Nationwide Schedule that lies ahead.

WATCH: Busch Brothers Shed Tears After Record Wins

This has got to be a rather rare experience in NASCAR: Two drivers who are brothers and who are racing in different classes winning the race on the same weekend and at the same racing track. Telling of how big this winning weekend was is the heartfelt press conference they hosted afterwards, where they both get a little bit teary eyed as they recant the tribulations they have been through and comment on their big day.

NASCAR Racing Schedule Closes Week Nine with First Win of Season for Kyle Busch

As the NASCAR racing schedule heads to week 10 at Talladega, all eyes are on Kyle Busch and his older brother Kurt (be sure to read our coverage of Kurt’s big win on the same weekend at Richmond). The short track at Richmond is one of the most popular tracks in the NASCAR racing schedule. It frequently hosts double headers for Nationwide and Sprint Cup races. Last weekend, during the Sprint Cup race, all eyes were on Kyle Busch, who came out of a late 13-lap restart from caution to steal the lead from top drivers like Edwards and Earnhardt Jr., ultimately netting him his first Sprint Cup win this year and his fourth in a row on this track.

A water bottle on the track started the commotion. On a caution, Edwards jumped his start but blamed Stewart for spinning his tires first. The officials didn’t buy it and sent him to the back of the pack, where he would lose another close race. Earnhardt Jr. was passed off the caution by Busch, and watched as Busch easily careened across the checkered flag. It would mark the 137th miserable loss for Earnhardt Jr. (he has not won since 2008). For Busch, it’s his fourth win in a row here, and that’s pretty exciting. But he amounts it mostly to getting a “lucky break.”

Winning Race Was “Lucky Break,” According to Busch

It was a gift, you know,” Busch said after the race. “Man, I just don’t know where it came from, or what it was. We came down pit road, and (crew chief) Dave Rogers and the crew gave me a great pit stop and the position that led to the win Stewart was phenomenal, and he deserved to win the race. I can’t say enough about us getting a lucky break.”

Following his big win at Richmond, Busch is up two spots to 11th in the Sprint Cup Standings. Greg Biffle still holds the first place slot as we enter week 10 of the NASCAR racing schedule.

WATCH: Week in Review: Richmond

The NASCAR racing schedule has concluded week nine, and it’s Kyle Busch who gets the Victory Lane lap this time around. While some may argue that it was all a fluke, a win is a win. If you did not have time to catch the action from last week, check out this video from ESPN, it will get you all caught up to date in a jiffy. NASCAR heads to Talladega next week for week 10 races, so be sure to tune back in then.

Week Four of NASCAR Racing Schedule for Camping World Truck Series Nets First Win for Young James Buescher

Enter week four of the NASCAR racing schedule for the shorter season of World Camping Truck Series, and you have its official winner of the SFP 250 at Kansas Speedway: the newlywed, James Buescher. It was not without its trials. And while Buescher may only be 22-years-old, he has already cut his teeth in the Camping series; 75 starts prior, however, and he was without a win up until last weekend.

His No. 29 Ram would prove worthy of his first career victory in this series. It all came down to racing knacks: namely pit strategies. Buescher ensured that he was in and out of pit lanes in a hurry, and that he only used them as needed. This enabled him to stay in contention all day long. Thanks to smart race management, he ended up in the final chase with Brad Keselowski with only ten laps to go. At the end of it all, he took the lead and hang on for his first win.

“We’ve had a lot of second-place finishes,” Buescher said to the press after the race. “Hats off to these guys. This was a brand new truck. Turner Motorsports trucks are pretty awesome. To get two in a row (Daytona/Kansas) is saying something.”

Week four has concluded of the NASCAR racing schedule for the World Camping Truck Series. After getting his first career victory in Kansas, Buescher is sitting pretty at second place. In the most recent NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Standings, he’s only four points behind the leader.

Week 8 in NASCAR Racing Schedule Bodes Big Win for Denny Hamlin, Joe Gibbs Racing

The Sprint Cup – the premier upper level of race class in the NASCAR racing schedule – has completed its first 8 weeks. Coming out of Kansas, from the STP 400, it’s Denny Hamlin whose eyeing the prize. During the first 8 weeks of the NASCAR racing schedule, he has won twice. He’s now in fifth place in the standings, and he’s got clout heading to Richmond next week with his Joe Gibbs Racing Team, a place where he’s used to winning; he’s got two wins in 12 starts at Richmond.

Martin Truex Jr. led the race with ease for 173 laps. Seemingly, as soon as the track was fully lit by sunshine, it was sunny-side-up for his win hopes. During the latter laps of the race, Hamlin crept in. He took the lead at the perfect moment, and fended off a determined Truex Jr. to take home the win.

Hamlin Makes History with No. 11 Toyota Camry

Aside from his big come-from-behind win over Truex, Hamlin also set history. It’s the 199th win for the No. 11 Toyota Camry he drives. That breaks the tie between it and the No. 49 car for all time.

“It’s kind of a tribute to them. They’re the ones that put this car number on the map – Ned Jarrett and those guys. I was just a small part of that history of this car number. I just hope that I live up to the standards of the number 11 car because there’s been some great drivers drive it and I’m just living on the legacy,” Hamlin said of his win and the record being shattered.

Take a gander at the current Sprint Cup Standings. Denny Hamlin is now sitting pretty at fifth place. Greg Biffle is still in first place by a significant margin. The NASCAR Racing Schedule heads over to Richmond for week 9 action this weekend.

Did you not have time to catch week 8 of the NASCAR racing schedule? No worries, we have you fully covered over here. This video recaps the action from last week on the track. It details Hamlin’s climbs to 19 career victories, as well as the historical 199th win for the Toyota race car that he is piloting under the Joe Gibbs Racing banner.

Week 6 in NASCAR Racing Schedule for Nationwide Has Stenhouse Jr. Taking Home Second Win of Season

The NASCAR racing schedule for Nationwide just got through week six, and it’s all action packed folks. At the top of his game, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has been making his Roush Fenway Racing team look GOOD; very good, in fact. He’s already notched two wins this season, one at Vegas and one this past weekend in Texas, which is the total of wins that he had in 32 starts last season. He’s easily on course to be in the running for the championship twice in a row, provided he keeps up his dominance on the track. In spite of lighting issues causing numerous restarts last weekend, the race all came down to a six lap restart on a caution.

“I spent the whole five laps under caution praying for a good restart,” Stenhouse said of the wild six lap end of the race. “Everything worked out for us. It was fun racing those guys. I had to drive it into Turn 3 wide open. … I managed to hang on.”

And that’s what exactly what he did. Come Turn 3, he pulled ahead. Denny Hamlin could do nothing but watch as that slick move netted Stenhouse Jr. his second win of the season.

“It wasn’t that bad at all. As soon as they went out the first time under caution, I said we were good to go,” Stenhouse told the media following the race. “They went out under green, and we went a few laps through there. I thought it was fine. Some people have a different opinion, but it was probably safer to stop and get it going.”

Stay up to date on the most recent NASCAR Nationwide Standings. Thanks to his last win, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is close behind Elliot Sadler, in second place at 243, just four points back.

WATCH: Wild Finish for Stenhouse Jr. at O’Reilly Auto Parts 300

A late race restart saw Ricky Stenhouse Jr. pull ahead by .001 seconds out of the first of six laps, with a forbidding Denny Hamlin on top of him. But some quick thinking and sure driving knacks allowed Stenhouse to pull ahead of Hamlin at the final laps, and stay in the lead to take home yet another impressive win for his Roush Fenway racing team, capping off a record start to a magical season in the NASCAR racing schedule for Nationwide and its all-star driver and its top seeded team.

NASCAR Racing Schedule Resumes with Big Win for Biffle, Roush Fenway Racing at Texas

The NASCAR racing schedule has resumed from its traditional one week pause for Easter, and the standings have not been affected all that much. Greg Biffle went out on the break from Martinsville being the top dog. He returns from the break after winning in Texas as the dominating alpha dog, three weeks, two races and counting—as we gear up to head into week 8 at Kansas in the NASCAR racing schedule.

Key Highlights from Texas

  • Biffle successfully ended the 49-race Roush Fenway Racing losing streak in NASCAR.
  • The race had 234 green flag laps, a record; there were no major crashes and few stops.
  • Jimmie Jonson lost the race during the final lap after scraping a wall while trying to reclaim the lead from Biffle; Johnson had led the race for 134 laps prior.
  • Greg Biffle posted his fifth top-five finish this year
  • This win marks Biffle’s 17th career win.
  • Matt Kenseth is tied with Dale Earnhardt Jr. for second in the Sprint Cup Standings.
  • Greg Biffle is still first in the standings by a margin of 19 points for three weeks and counting at 273 points total.

Johnson Credits Wall Scrape, Tangling, “Great Move” with Poor Finish

“The last two or three runs the 16 and I were pretty equal, run; pretty similar lap times,” Johnson said of his failing to overtake Biffle at the end of the race and getting tangled in a wall scrape that netted him a devastating second place finish in the seventh week of the NASCAR racing schedule.

“I just got tangled up in some lapped traffic and (Biffle) made a great move and got by me. And then I was pacing him from there and didn’t have anything left to go get him. I tried and ran out of grip going into Turn 3 and drilled the fence,” he added.

Check out the current ESPN Sprint Cup Standings. They are very telling of how dominant that Roush Fenway Racing is this year. As we enter week 8 of the NASCAR racing schedule in Kansas this week, Greg Biffle is in at first place while Matt Kenseth is tied for second with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

WATCH: Greg Biffle: Leader At The Break

Were you not able to catch the action last weekend as the NASCAR racing schedule resumed from its customary one week spring break? No worries. This video that was posted on YouTube by ESPN will get you all caught up in a real jiffy. It shows highlights and, of course, includes their expert commentary, as per usual. As the NASCAR racing schedule heads to week 8, Biffle has outdone the odds to remain as the point leader.

Focusing on GREEN – NASCAR Racing Schedule Coincides with Strong 2012 Environmental Efforts

The NASCAR racing schedule sees dozens of annual events for its Sprint Cup series, notwithstanding its other scheduled events and subsectors of professional racing, like Nationwide and Camping. By comparison to other professional sports outside of racing, NASCAR has the biggest carbon footprint of them all. From the fuel that’s used on the track, to the emissions given off the by supercars – which can burn a gallon for approximately every five miles they travel on the track – to the thousands of fans that pack the tracks, their cars and fuel used to get there, campers, SUVs, tracks, and vans. This is not even accounting for waste that is created from these events, something that is measured in metric tons because it’s so vast.

Back in 2008, NASCAR formed the NASCAR Green Innovation, tasked with the staggering prospect of significantly reducing its impact on the earth. The managing director of this newer part of the NASCAR structure, Mike Lynch is the first to admit that a sport fueled by fossil fuels and trying to go green can seemingly be played off as satirical and ironic, but still is a necessary undertaking.

“That’s part of the magic of it. It’s literally is counterintuitive out of the gate. Then we turn it on its head and take a look at what the sport offers,” Lynch said in a recent statement to the press.

Couple those efforts with the sports more than 400 sponsors, all who are trying to stay profitable, and you have a algorithm that even Google would be hard pressed to resolve.

Reduction Efforts

  • Stockcars burn nearly 500,000 gallons of fuel annually, something NASCAR has addressed by introducing a 10% ethanol mix.
  • Beverage sponsors like Coca Cola are now using clean burning big rigs for events.
  • Portable recycling bins have been added to most races, and helped clean up and reuse more than 12 million bottles each year.
  • Green efforts combined save about 300,000 gallons of gasoline annually.
  • Last year, NASCAR helped plant 4,000 trees; each tree can store up to a metric ton of carbon dioxide in a lifetime.
  • Drivers and teams as well as sponsors are reaching out to fans via popular social media outlets to encourage environmental awareness.
  • Newer devices help preserve fuel and prevent leakages.

WATCH: Green Initiatives with Safety-Kleen

Ever wonder how NASCAR ensures that that powerful fuel they are using does not spill onto the track and harm our environment, in addition to safeguarding its handling to ensure it does not pose health and safety hazards for teams, crews, drivers and fans? One of the answers is part of the NASCAR Green Innovation project. A device called Safety-Kleen helps preserve fuel from spilling on the track during refueling. Check out this video that documents how these devices work, how they are used, and what impact they are having upon the sport during the current NASCAR racing schedule.

From Karts to Trucks, 19-Year-Old Jeb Burton Shows the World He’s Camping in the NASCAR Racing Schedule

The NASCAR racing schedule for the World Camping Truck Series is underway. The last race that took place was at Martinsville on April 2nd. This race was pivotal for a young racer who first got his start in go-karts, then moved on to late models, ultimately leading up to his debut at this track here. Jeb Burton, son of seasoned driver, Ward Burton, showed off his rookie licks. His State Water Heaters No. 47 truck fared well, in spite of needing minor repairs from a late race collision. At the conclusion of the race, Burton posted a very impressive debut, finishing at 13th in his first pro national race.

Son was ready for big day…

You have to think that a father watching his son follow is in his footsteps is quite a big deal. For Ward Burton, it was. But being no stranger to the NASCAR racing schedule, he made certain that Jeb was as best prepared as possible.

“If I didn’t know Jeb was ready, we wouldn’t be doing it,” said Ward Burton, Jeb’s father and five time winner in what is now called the Sprint Cup, including winning the Southern 500 in 2001.

“I know Jeb, with the right equipment and the right team, can run as good as any of those guys. He just needs the seat time. He’s got the raw talent,” he added.

Luck has something to do with it…

Ask Jeb why he stuffs a $1 bill into his race suit before race day, and he attributes that told adage of superstition to just garnering more luck in his direction.

“I believe in luck, especially in racing,” Jeb Burton said. “Sometimes you’re better off to be lucky than good because in racing so many bad things that can go wrong.”

A top-15 for your first race, lucky maybe. Talented, certainly.

From go-karts at age 12, to motocross, limited late model and late model in his teens, now on to pro national truck racing, Burton has just begun his pro journey.

Jeb will race in four more appearances this year in NASCAR as part of a sponsorship deal. Expect to see more of him in 2013, perhaps for a full time run.

WATCH: Jeb Burton Recap in HD

If you missed any of the action from the much anticipated and exciting debut of 19-year-old rookie sensation, Jeb Burton, then make sure that you don’t miss watching this short recap video in HD. It tells the story of Burton’s rise from being on the sideline helping his father, Ward, win races to his eventual entry in the World Camping Truck Series and ultimately up to his recent debut in the NASCAR racing schedule at Martinsville. There, in spite of being wrecked late in the race, Burton climbed back into contention to net himself a top-15 finish in his first race.

NASCAR Racing Schedule Week 6: Ryan Newman Gets Victory Lane Lap at Martinsville Speedway

A Clint Bowyer wreck paved the fate for several drivers at Martinsville last weekend. Among them were two discernible top-three contenders, Gordon and Johnson, who fell from top spots and suffered poor restarts. It would mark a key moment of opportunity for Ryan Newman, however, who came from behind to win the race.

“Jeff and I had been the class of the field so I really thought it was going to be a race between the two of us, and it certainly didn’t turn out that way,” Johnson said, recalling how he and Gordon were basically etched out of the race due to a blindside hit by a non-attentive Clint Bowyer during the final two laps of the race at Martinsville. Johnson, who led for 128 laps, would go on to finish 12th while Gordon, who led for a race-high 328 laps, finished in a dismal 14th in this race.

Odd Fluke Dashed Gordon’s, Johnson’s Hopes for Win, Paved Way for Newman

“He said he got hit from behind by the 39 (Newman),” Gordon said of the Bowyer incident. “I had nowhere to go. Jimmie had nowhere to go. It was pretty unfortunate. … I didn’t want to see that last caution.”

“We had such a great battle with (Johnson). … It was going to be an interesting race. […] That’s just the way our year’s been going. It can’t go on like this forever,” he added.

As for Newman, thanks to a quick eye, fast moves and keen awareness, he was able to pull a fine line, draw for first and hold off a determined Allmendinger on his heels to earn another lap around victory lane, his first at this track.

NASCAR pauses for a week and then resumes in Texas on April 14th for the seventh event of the NASCAR racing schedule: The Samsung Mobile 500.

WATCH: Post Race Press Conference with Ryan Newman

After winning a wild racing showdown that saw multiple restarts and a few major crashes, it was almost anybody’s for the taking. At the end of the day, Ryan Newman came from behind to take home the top honors and earn a lap on the Outback Victory Lane. Watch this video of his questions and answers session with the press following his first win in Martinsville and the third overall win for his team this year.

A Quarter Way Through 12’ NASCAR Racing Schedule, Roush Fenway Racing Team Anticipates Strong Return from Spring Break

Does the Rush Fenway Racing team have some hidden, magical power that is driving them? Why do we ask that? Because the leader in the Sprint Cup Standings is their driver, Greg Biffle, who in spite of not winning in the past four races somehow leads the pack. And with about 20 races to go and with six that already have been completed, the Chase is just around the corner.

But it’s not just Greg Biffle who’s making the team shine. Carl Edwards is 11th place; Matt Kenseth is in fourth place – that’s three drivers in the top 15 spots, not counting Stenhouse who is in second place for Nationwide. So technically, they have four top-15 drivers on the circuit right now as they enter the spring break. The term: sitting pretty comes to mind here.

Still Humble Before Races

“Even when you run well here it’s a hard-fought battle and it’s tough,” said Edwards to the media just before racing at Martinsville last weekend, where Roush Fenway did not field a winning car. “When you’re hanging on battling with that race car the whole day, it leaves an impression on you.

All things considered, who really cares if you didn’t win the Martinsville Goody’s Fast Relief 500 race … when all is said and done, Roush Fenway Racing has done it yet again. They are atop the Sprint Cup Standings with Greg Biffle leading Dale Earnhardt Jr. for first place at 226 points to Earnhardt’s 220.

WATCH: Final Laps at Martinsville Goody’s Fast Relief 500

If you didn’t have time to watch the entire race, worry not. This fan appreciation video caught the final laps of the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 from a decent handheld camera that was positioned directly on an apron sidelining the checkered flags. Relive the action and fury of this race that netted Newman a win in the Sprint Cup and that also had the Roush Fenway Team rethinking the rest of the NASCAR racing schedule, and their strategy, for this season.
